Spectroelectrochemical studies of electrochromic diarylethene ionic Liquids: From solution to ionogel based devices

This study establishes the photoelectrochromic properties of four diarylethene ionic liquids (DAE-ILs) composed a dicarboxylate (DAE) moiety, as counter-anion, and different organic cations ([C10mim]+, [C16Pyr] +, [N8,8,8,1]+, [P6,6,6,14]+). The synthetized ILs viscous fluids maintain photochemical electrochemical this well-known family photoswitches, well typical features (e.g., low melting point, high thermal stability). Our strategy making multi-stimuli-responsive by exchange opens door to easily tune physicochemical smart DAE-ILs in function selected cation. Finally, those are used formulate ionogels (IGs), type materials that, showing good conductive retaining stimuli-responsive behavior embedded DAE molecules, allow fabrication photoelectrochemical devices.
